    Here are a couple of songs I worked up for use in the classroom:

    Purpose: to develop phonemic awareness and skills in segmenting and blending.

    A-a-a-apple, a-a-a-apple
    That’s the sound of “A”
    A-a-a-apple, a-a-a-apple
    That’s the sound of “A”

    B-b-b-banana, b-b-b-banana
    That’s the sound of “B”
    B-b-b-banana, b-b-b-banana
    That’s the sound of “B”

    (Song continues using words in appropriate alphabetic order.)

    Note:
    Teacher may sing the first two lines, with the students joining in on the second two lines of that letter. As the children become familiar with the song, they may make their own suggestions of words.

    A single word or two words that both begin with the same letter or fit in the rhythmn of the song may be used. A list of possible words to be used in the song follows:
