Here are a couple of songs I worked up for use in the classroom:

The Alphabet Calypso         Short Vowel Rap         Many Many Cows

    Short Vowel Rap
    by Ruth Ingulsrud

If I see an “a” in the middle of a word,
    I know it can say, -a- -a-
If I see an “a” in the middle of a word,
    I know it can say, -a- -a-

Let me hear you say, -a- -a-
    Say, -a- -a-
Let me hear you say, -a- -a-
    Say, -a- -a-

    Like cat, cat
    and hat, hat
    and pat, pat
    and mat, mat

If I see an “e” in the middle of a word
    I know it can say, -e- -e-
If I see an “e” in the middle of a word
    I know it can say, -e- -e-

Let me hear you say, -e- -e-
    Say, -e- -e-
Let me hear you say, -e- -e-
    Say, -e- -e-

    Like pet, pet
    and bet, bet
    and set, set
    and let, let

    Etc.

    Silent E Rap

    Silent “e” changes the game
Makes the vowel say its own name
    Makes a hat become hate
    Makes a mat become mate

    etc.
